Record your screen

Record system audio and your microphone

Choose whether a take includes what your Mac plays, your voice, or both. Pick a microphone and test its level before you record.

Where to find it

Studio → Screen recording → Record

How to do it

  1. Open the studio and choose Screen recording.

  2. Turn on Record system audio to capture what the Mac plays.

  3. Turn on Record microphone to capture your voice. Allow microphone access if macOS asks.

  4. Choose your mic in Microphone, or leave System Default.

  5. Press Test and speak. The level bar should move. Press Stop Test when you’re done.

Good to know

  • System audio does not include your voice. Turn on Record microphone to save it.
  • Audio settings can’t change during a take. Set them before you press record.
