Web editor & recorder

Fix “This browser can’t encode video” or a recording that won’t start

The web editor and recorder need a recent Chrome, Edge, or Safari. Here is what each message means and what to try.

Where to find it

getframecast.com/studio or /record

How to do it

  1. Open the page in an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, or Safari. Browsers without video encoding can edit but not export.

  2. If a recording didn't start, press Start recording again, pick a screen, window, or tab, and allow the microphone.

  3. If the editor says the browser has run out of storage, delete projects you don't need from Projects, or free up disk space.

  4. If an export falls back to another codec, the Export video window says which one. Choose MP4 · H.264 for the widest support.

Good to know

  • Some private windows can't keep projects. The header then says Not saved: this browser can’t store projects.
