Edit a recording

Separate the audio from a video

Detach a video’s sound onto its own audio track to move, trim or reuse it on its own. The video is muted and the sound becomes an asset.

Where to find it

Editor → select a video clip → Edit tab → Clip audio → Detach audio

How to do it

  1. Click the video clip on the timeline.

  2. Press Detach audio in the Clip audio card, or press ⇧⌘D.

  3. Its sound appears on an audio track at the same place, and the video is muted.

  4. Move, trim, split or change the volume of the audio clip on its own.

Good to know

  • The sound is also kept as an asset in the library, so you can place it again after deleting it from the timeline.
