FrameCast vs EZGIF
Pricing notes as of October 9, 2026. Figures can change — confirm on each vendor’s site before you buy.
EZGIF is a straightforward online converter: upload a video, pick a range, download a GIF. FrameCast is the other shape of that job — the file never leaves the Mac or iPhone.
Neither tool puts audio in a GIF. GIF as a format does not carry the soundtrack. If you need sound, export MP4 instead.
Side-by-side
| Factor | FrameCast | EZGIF |
|---|---|---|
| How conversion works | In the Mac or iPhone editor, set the format to GIF and export. Frame rate choices are 8, 10, 12, 15, 24, or 30 fps. Colors are 256, 128, 64, or 32, with optional dither. | An online converter: upload a video (200 MB max) or paste a URL. Uploaded files are deleted 1 hour after upload. If you do not set a range, it converts the first five seconds. Length is capped by frame rate — 60 seconds at 5 fps, and 30 seconds at 10 fps. |
| Length | No published duration cap in the exporter. A long, high-frame-rate GIF becomes a large file. Repeat can write the same clip back to back, from 1 to 30 times. | 60 seconds at 5 fps, 30 seconds at 10 fps, and shorter as frame rate goes up. Unset range uses the first five seconds. |
| Privacy | Rendered on device. The video is not uploaded to make the GIF. | You upload the file or give a direct URL. EZGIF says uploads are deleted after 1 hour. |
| Playback | Loop forever, or play once. That setting is separate from Repeat. | Loop count, including 0 for infinite looping. |
| Price | GIF export is part of the free app. | The video-to-GIF page does not list a price. |
Why a local GIF export is enough
No upload step
A product demo or a lesson can become a GIF without sending the screen recording to another site.
You choose the range in the editor
Trim first, then export. You are not limited to the first five seconds unless you leave the timeline that short.
Captions can be burned in
If the take has captions, the GIF exporter draws them into the frames. The web editor does not export GIF; it exports MP4.
Fair tradeoffs
EZGIF is the right tool when you are not at a Mac or iPhone, when the source is WebM, AVI, MKV, or another format you already have in a browser, or when you only need a few seconds and do not mind an upload. FrameCast does not claim to replace every format EZGIF accepts.
