Easy video to GIF
Open a take in the Mac or iPhone editor, set the format to GIF, and export. It renders on the device. There is no account, no watermark, and no upload just to make the GIF.
GIF does not carry audio, so the soundtrack is dropped. If the clip needs sound, export MP4 instead. The web editor exports MP4 only — GIF is in the Mac and iPhone apps.

What you can set
The exporter remembers the last choices. Resolution uses the same steps as video: original, 4K, 1080p, 720p, or 480p, and it does not scale a smaller video up.
- Frame rate: 8, 10, 12, 15, 24, or 30 fps
- Colors: 256, 128, 64, or 32
- Dither on or off
- Playback: loop forever, or play once
- Repeat: write the same clip back to back, from 1 to 30 times — one clip, not a batch of different videos
- Captions, if the timeline has them, are drawn into the frames
Length, honestly
There is no duration cap in the GIF exporter. A long GIF at a high frame rate and a large frame is a large file, and some sites will refuse it. Trim to the moment you want, drop the frame rate, or lower the colors when the file needs to stay small.
That is a different rule from online converters that cut you off at a few seconds or make you upload the video first.
Then share it, or share a real video
A GIF is for a loop in a doc, a chat, or a landing page. A share link is for the full video: transcript, chapters, comments, and a view count. Free includes 25 live share links, up to 30 minutes each, at 1080p. When the GIF is doing the job of a product tour people should actually watch, export MP4 and use a link. Pro is $5.00/month, $60.00 billed yearly.
Questions
- Can I convert a video to a GIF for free?
- Yes. GIF export is included in the free Mac and iPhone apps. It does not use voice credits. The web editor does not export GIF; it exports MP4.
- Does the GIF include audio?
- No. The exporter drops the audio. Export MP4, HEVC, or ProRes when the soundtrack matters.
- Is there a maximum GIF length?
- The exporter does not impose one. File size grows with duration, resolution, frame rate, and color count. Repeat can duplicate the same clip up to 30 times and makes the file longer.
- Do I have to upload the video?
- No. The Mac and iPhone editors render the GIF on device.
