Edit a recording

Cut out a part in the middle of a video

Split a clip at the playhead on each side of the part you don’t want, then delete the piece in between.

Where to find it

Editor → timeline → right-click a clip → Split at playhead

How to do it

  1. Move the playhead to where the unwanted part starts, by dragging the ruler or with ← and → (one frame) or ⇧← and ⇧→ (one second).

  2. Press ⌘B, or right-click the clip and choose Split at playhead.

  3. Move the playhead to where the part ends and split again.

  4. Click the piece in the middle and press Delete.

  5. If a gap is left, drag the next clip left to close it. Snap lines it up with the clip before.

Good to know

  • Gaps on the timeline play as black.
  • To cut by the words that were said, use Edit by text in the Words tab, which closes the gap for you.
  • ⌘D duplicates the selected clip, and ⌘J joins clips selected together into one.
