Edit a recording

Remove silences, ums and repeated words

Smart cleanup finds long pauses, ums and uhs, repeats and restarted sentences, then cuts or speeds them up in one step you can undo.

Where to find it

Editor → Words tab → Smart cleanup

How to do it

  1. Open the Words tab and find the Smart cleanup card.

  2. Turn on what to find: Tighten long pauses, Um, uh and hesitation sounds, and, if the recording is transcribed, asides, Repeated words (“the the”) and Restarted sentences, keeping the last take.

  3. For pauses, pick Longer than and what Silent parts do. Cut when the screen is still, else speed up keeps on-screen action.

  4. Press Find edits. Uncheck any proposal you want to keep, or click its time to hear it.

  5. Press Apply. The button shows how many edits it makes, such as Apply 12 edits.

Good to know

  • Every track is cut together, so text, captions and voice-over stay in sync. Imported music plays through.
  • Pauses and hesitation sounds are found by listening. Asides, repeats and restarts need a transcript from the Text track card, which needs macOS 26.
  • One ⌘Z undoes the whole cleanup.
