Captions & transcripts

Edit a video by editing its transcript

Select words in the transcript and cut them, and the video, audio and captions are cut at the same moment.

Where to find it

Editor → Words tab → Edit by text

How to do it

  1. Transcribe the recording first, from the Text track card.

  2. Open the Words tab. Edit by text shows the transcript as paragraphs.

  3. Click a word to jump there, then Shift-click another word to select the passage between.

  4. Press Play to hear it, then Cut from video to remove it from every track.

  5. Click a ⏸ pause chip to shorten that pause to a natural gap.

Good to know

  • Words that Smart cleanup plans to remove are struck through in red. Undo restores a cut in one step.
  • Words with estimated timing may cut slightly off; transcribing again gives exact timing.
