FrameCast vs Clipchamp

Pricing notes as of October 9, 2026. Figures can change — confirm on each vendor’s site before you buy.

Clipchamp is Microsoft’s browser video editor. Its pricing page says the free plan includes a screen recorder, AI subtitles, and watermark-free exports up to 1080p, after you sign in with a Microsoft account.

FrameCast is a Mac app, an iPhone editor, and a web editor. Local recording, captions, and export do not require an account. A free share link is a separate, smaller limit.

Where the products differ

  • 4K without a Microsoft 365 plan

A local FrameCast export can be 4K when the source is that large. Clipchamp lists 4K as premium. A free FrameCast share link is still 1080p and 30 minutes.

  • Captions stay free either way

Clipchamp includes AI subtitles on the free plan. FrameCast does too, on device, with no caption time cap. Neither fact is a reason to invent a winner on language coverage.

  • Pay FrameCast when the link matters

A free share link can be up to 30 minutes at 1080p. Pro shares up to 4 hours in 4K. Pro: $6.00/month or $60.00/year — unlimited links, 4K, viewer insights, link controls, branding.

Fair tradeoffs

Clipchamp is the better fit when you already live in Microsoft 365, want its stock library, or need a browser editor that exports watermark-free 1080p without installing a Mac app. FrameCast is not a stock-media library.
