Add captions to a video on iPhone

Transcribe speech on your iPhone, fix any words, style the captions, and burn them into the exported video.

Where to find it

Editor → Captions tab

How to do it

  1. In the editor, open the Captions tab and turn on Burn into the video.

  2. Tap Transcribe. The lines appear below with their times.

  3. Tap a line to fix its words, tap the minus button to remove it, or tap Add line at the playhead.

  4. Choose a look under Style, then fine-tune it in Text, Effects, Motion, and Place.

  5. Export the video. The captions are drawn into it.

Good to know

  • Already corrected the Text track in Words? Tap Use the edited Text track instead of transcribing again.
  • Save as a look keeps your caption settings to reuse. The preview matches what gets burned in.
