Captions & transcripts

Add captions to a video and burn them in

Transcribe the speech onto the CC row, check the words, and export. The captions are drawn into the picture so they play anywhere.

Where to find it

Editor → timeline → CC row → Transcribe speech

How to do it

  1. On the CC row under Text in the timeline, press Transcribe speech. Or press Copy Text track to use lines you already transcribed.

  2. Click any caption to fix its words in the Caption line card.

  3. Click the CC label to show or hide captions on the video, or use Show on the video in the Captions card on the Export tab.

  4. Press Export video…. The captions are burned into the picture.

Good to know

  • Captions copied from the Text track keep following its edits, Smart cleanup and Undo. Lines typed by hand move with cuts.
  • Transcribing needs macOS 26. GIF exports draw the captions too.
