Make a video smaller to send or upload

Lower the quality, resolution or frame rate, or switch to HEVC, and watch the estimated file size drop before you export.

Where to find it

Editor → Export tab → Quality

How to do it

  1. On the Export tab, set Format to MP4 · HEVC, which is smaller than H.264 at the same setting.

  2. Set Quality to Compact or Standard.

  3. Choose a smaller Resolution, such as 720p.

  4. Check the estimate at the bottom, then press Export video….

Good to know

  • Trimming the video, or cutting pauses with Smart cleanup, also shrinks the file.
  • Use MP4 · H.264 instead if the person you send it to has an older device.
