Files and photo sync
FrameCast vs Box
Pricing notes as of October 12, 2026. Figures can change — confirm on each vendor’s site before you buy.
Box is built for companies that share files with people outside the account, keep versions, and need admin and compliance controls. Plans are sold per user. The pricing page is presented as starting from $5 per user per month.
FrameCast is a smaller product: a personal library, a drive for each team, iPhone photo sync, Finder on the Mac, and a recorder. Personal files use Free (15 GB) or Pro ($6.00/month or $60.00/year, 200 GB). Each team is its own subscription: $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team, with 1 TB for up to 250 members. Extra storage is $20.00/month per extra terabyte, on your personal plan or on that team. One sign-in can belong to several teams. My Files are not counted against a team, and team admins cannot open them.
Side-by-side
| Factor | FrameCast | Box |
|---|---|---|
| How you pay | One price per team, members included up to 250, then $20.00/month per extra terabyte. A second team is a second subscription. Personal files stay on Free or Pro. | The pricing page is presented as starting from $5 per user per month. Individual is free: 10 GB, a 250 MB upload limit, and one version of each file. Personal Pro lists 100 GB, a 5 GB upload, and 10 versions. Business lists unlimited storage, a 5 GB upload, and a minimum of three users. |
| Free starting point | 15 GB, files up to 50 GB, and iPhone photo sync. | Individual is free with 10 GB, a 250 MB upload limit, and one version of each file. |
| Photos from iPhones | Off until you turn it on. You pick the destination: My Files, a team, or a folder. Sync into a team asks you to confirm that team's admins will see the photos. Send the whole library or chosen albums, everything already on the phone or only new photos, with videos optional and screenshots skippable. On a team, photos land in the folder you pick — by member and month, by default — and upload in the background, mostly while the iPhone charges on Wi-Fi. Personal sync never counts against a team. | Box is a content system. It is not an iPhone camera-roll backup into a crew folder. |
| Links for clients | A person outside the team cannot open an arbitrary file or folder from a link. Signed-in members can open the team drive, within their role. A recording has its own watch link, separate from the file library. | Box says you can share a file or folder with someone who has no Box account. Business requires paid accounts for external collaborators; higher plans list unlimited external collaborators. |
| Versions | You open the current file. If two saves race, the one that loses is kept beside it as a conflicted copy. There is no version-history browser. Trash keeps deletes for 30 days. | Individual keeps one version. Personal Pro lists 10. The business comparison lists 50 on the first business column and more on higher plans. |
| Compliance | No SSO, SCIM, or HIPAA. Roles are owner, admin, member, contributor, and viewer, plus restricted folders. A verified company domain can offer Join; it is not single sign-on, and public mail hosts such as Gmail are rejected. Files are stored in the United States. | Higher plans list SSO, SOC reports, and HIPAA eligibility, plus add-ons for governance and data residency. Confirm the plan before you rely on one. |
| Desktop | Each drive you turn on becomes a FrameCast folder in Finder. Files download when opened, and Keep Downloaded can keep a folder on the Mac. The iPhone Files app lists each drive while you are signed in. There is no Windows or Android file app. | Box has desktop and mobile apps and a large integration list, including Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. |
When FrameCast is the better fit
A field crew, not a compliance program
If the job is “every phone’s photos land in one folder,” a team does that for $20.00 a month, up to 250 people, and a contributor does not have to see the rest of the drive. A second crew is another team.
Large uploads on the free and paid plans
A file can be up to 50 GB. Box Individual stops at 250 MB, and the Business column on the pricing page lists a 5 GB upload.
Recording included
The same account records a Mac screen, edits it, and publishes a watch link. Box will store the exported file. It does not record the screen.
Fair tradeoffs
Box is the serious choice when clients must download a folder without an account, when you need version history, e-sign, or a compliance report, or when the company already standardizes on it. FrameCast will not pass a HIPAA or SSO review. Several teams, five roles, and restricted folders do not replace those controls. The fit is a Mac and iPhone crew that wants a pooled drive and photo sync without a per-user content platform.
