Files and photo sync
FrameCast vs Google Drive
Pricing notes as of October 12, 2026. Figures can change — confirm on each vendor’s site before you buy.
Google Drive is file storage inside a Google account, with Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and a desktop app for Mac and Windows. Google One is how that account buys more space, and the same pool also holds Gmail and Google Photos.
FrameCast is a personal file library plus a drive for each team. A team's quota is not shared with email, or with your personal files. Personal files use Free (15 GB) or Pro ($6.00/month or $60.00/year, 200 GB). Each team is its own subscription: $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team, with 1 TB for up to 250 members. Extra storage is $20.00/month per extra terabyte, on your personal plan or on that team. One sign-in can belong to several teams. My Files are not counted against a team, and team admins cannot open them.
Side-by-side
| Factor | FrameCast | Google Drive |
|---|---|---|
| Free storage | 15 GB for files, recordings, and photo sync. It is not shared with an inbox. | Up to 15 GB for Drive, Gmail, and Photos together. |
| Paid storage | Pro is $6.00/month or $60.00/year with 200 GB. Team is $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team with 1 TB. $20.00/month per extra terabyte. | Every Google account includes up to 15 GB shared by Drive, Gmail, and Photos. Basic is $1.99/month for 100 GB. Google AI Plus is $9.99/month for 2 TB. Google AI Pro is $19.99/month for 5 TB. A plan can be shared with up to five other people. |
| A work crew | Each team pools 1 TB for up to 250 members. Roles are owner, admin, member, contributor, and viewer, with restricted folders. Invites work while you are already on another team. A verified company domain can offer Join. It is not SSO, and it never adds you automatically. | Google One can be shared with up to five other people. A larger company library is Google Workspace, which is a separate product and was not priced on the Google One plans page. |
| iPhone photos | Off until you turn it on. You pick the destination: My Files, a team, or a folder. Sync into a team asks you to confirm that team's admins will see the photos. Send the whole library or chosen albums, everything already on the phone or only new photos, with videos optional and screenshots skippable. On a team, photos land in the folder you pick — by member and month, by default — and upload in the background, mostly while the iPhone charges on Wi-Fi. Personal sync never counts against a team. | Google Photos backup uses the same Google storage pool. See the Google Photos comparison for that product. |
| Editing documents | Files are stored and previewed. There is no live co-editing of documents, spreadsheets, or slides. | Docs, Sheets, and Slides are the reason many teams live in Drive. |
| Desktop | Each drive you turn on becomes a FrameCast folder in Finder. Files download when opened, and Keep Downloaded can keep a folder on the Mac. The iPhone Files app lists each drive while you are signed in. There is no Windows or Android file app. | Drive for desktop syncs on Mac and Windows. Files can also be opened in the browser. |
| Sharing outside the team | A person outside the team cannot open an arbitrary file or folder from a link. Signed-in members can open the team drive, within their role. A recording has its own watch link, separate from the file library. | Drive’s sharing model is a link, with view or edit access, including for people who do not pay for storage. |
| Versions | You open the current file. If two saves race, the one that loses is kept beside it as a conflicted copy. There is no version-history browser. Trash keeps deletes for 30 days. | Drive keeps prior versions of files. This page does not quote a retention period. |
When FrameCast is the better fit
Storage is not competing with the inbox
A full Gmail account cannot crowd out the photo folder. FrameCast’s 15 GB free allowance, and the paid pools above it, are for files.
More than five people on one bill
Google One family sharing stops at five other people. A FrameCast team holds up to 250 members on one 1 TB pool, and a second crew is a second team with its own pool.
Photos from the field, plus a recorder
Chosen albums from each iPhone file themselves by person and month. The Mac app can also record a screen and publish a watch link.
Fair tradeoffs
Stay on Drive if the work is documents, spreadsheets, and slides, or if Windows PCs have to sync the same folder. Google’s paid pools are larger per dollar at the 2 TB and 5 TB Google One tiers than FrameCast Pro’s 200 GB. FrameCast does not replace Google Workspace admin, document editing, or SSO. Shared drives are compared on the Workspace page.
