Files and photo sync
FrameCast vs Dropbox
Pricing notes as of October 12, 2026. Figures can change — confirm on each vendor’s site before you buy.
FrameCast keeps My Files on your personal plan and a separate drive for each team. One sign-in can belong to any number of teams. You choose the destination when you upload, record, or sync photos. The Mac can show each drive in Finder, and the same account publishes a video link.
Dropbox is a file-sync product for Mac, Windows, and phones, with shared links and version history. The price difference shows up when several people share one library: FrameCast Team is $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team, with 1 TB. Dropbox Standard is $15 per user each month and starts at 3 TB for the team.
Side-by-side
| Factor | FrameCast | Dropbox |
|---|---|---|
| One person | Pro is $6.00/month or $60.00/year with 200 GB. Free is 15 GB. | Plus is $9.99/month for one person with 2 TB. |
| A team | Personal files use Free (15 GB) or Pro ($6.00/month or $60.00/year, 200 GB). Each team is its own subscription: $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team, with 1 TB for up to 250 members. Extra storage is $20.00/month per extra terabyte, on your personal plan or on that team. One sign-in can belong to several teams. My Files are not counted against a team, and team admins cannot open them. Members are included. You add terabytes, not seats. | Standard is $15 per user each month and starts at 3 TB for the team. Advanced is $24 per user each month for 3 or more people, starting at 15 TB. Plus is $9.99/month for one person with 2 TB. |
| Ten people | $20.00/month, or $18.33/month billed yearly, for that team. | About $150/month on Standard, at the listed $15 per user. |
| iPhone photos | Off until you turn it on. You pick the destination: My Files, a team, or a folder. Sync into a team asks you to confirm that team's admins will see the photos. Send the whole library or chosen albums, everything already on the phone or only new photos, with videos optional and screenshots skippable. On a team, photos land in the folder you pick — by member and month, by default — and upload in the background, mostly while the iPhone charges on Wi-Fi. Personal sync never counts against a team. | Dropbox’s mobile apps include camera upload into the account signed in on that phone. |
| Desktop and phones | Each drive you turn on becomes a FrameCast folder in Finder. Files download when opened, and Keep Downloaded can keep a folder on the Mac. The iPhone Files app lists each drive while you are signed in. There is no Windows or Android file app. | A Dropbox folder on Mac and Windows, plus mobile apps. The plans page includes “Connect unlimited devices” on Plus, Standard, and Advanced. |
| Sharing outside the team | A person outside the team cannot open an arbitrary file or folder from a link. Signed-in members can open the team drive, within their role. A recording has its own watch link, separate from the file library. | Shared links are a core feature. Password-protected links and custom expiration are listed on Standard and Advanced, not on Plus. |
| Versions and trash | You open the current file. If two saves race, the one that loses is kept beside it as a conflicted copy. There is no version-history browser. Trash keeps deletes for 30 days. | Version history and restore are 30 days on Plus, 180 days on Standard, and 1 year on Advanced. |
| Video | Screen and camera recording, a timeline editor, and a watch link with a transcript, chapters, comments, and reactions. Viewer insights and link controls are on Pro and Team. | The plans page lists video transcripts, editing, and commenting, plus Dropbox Replay with a limited upload allowance. |
When FrameCast is the better fit
The bill does not grow with the crew
Ten people and two people pay the same $20.00 a month for one team. Storage is the meter: 1 TB included, then $20.00/month per extra terabyte. A second crew is a second team, with its own bill, not a per-seat charge.
Job photos arrive already filed
Each company iPhone can send chosen albums into one team folder, split by the person who took them and the month. Admins see which phone last synced.
The recorder is in the same account
A walkthrough recorded on the Mac can be edited and sent as a watch link without a second subscription. Local recording and editing stay free.
Fair tradeoffs
Dropbox includes more storage on Plus and on the entry team plan, Windows and Android apps, links that send any file or folder to someone without an account, version history, and admin controls such as SSO and HIPAA on Advanced. FrameCast has none of those compliance tools. Several teams under one login do not add them. Pick Dropbox when the library has to travel to Windows PCs or when outside clients need a link to a folder.
