FrameCast vs Google Photos

Pricing notes as of October 12, 2026. Figures can change — confirm on each vendor’s site before you buy.

Google Photos is a photo library. Backup from a phone counts against the Google account’s storage, which is also Drive and Gmail. The free allowance is up to 15 GB.

FrameCast photo sync copies photos and videos into Files. They also stay in the iPhone library. On a personal account they go to My Files. On a team they go to a folder that team chooses, after you confirm the team’s admins will see them. Personal files use Free (15 GB) or Pro ($6.00/month or $60.00/year, 200 GB). Each team is its own subscription: $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team, with 1 TB for up to 250 members. Extra storage is $20.00/month per extra terabyte, on your personal plan or on that team. One sign-in can belong to several teams. My Files are not counted against a team, and team admins cannot open them.

What gets backed upOff until you turn it on. You pick the destination: My Files, a team, or a folder. Sync into a team asks you to confirm that team's admins will see the photos. Send the whole library or chosen albums, everything already on the phone or only new photos, with videos optional and screenshots skippable. On a team, photos land in the folder you pick — by member and month, by default — and upload in the background, mostly while the iPhone charges on Wi-Fi. Personal sync never counts against a team.Phone backup into Google Photos, on iPhone and Android. Storage is the Google account pool.
Where a crew’s photos goEvery signed-in iPhone can file into one team folder, labeled by member and month. Admins see each device’s sync status and how much storage each member uses.Backup is that person’s Google account. A shared album or a partner library is a separate choice, not an automatic dump of every work phone into one company folder.
Storage priceFree 15 GB. Pro $6.00/month or $60.00/year with 200 GB. Team $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team with 1 TB.Every Google account includes up to 15 GB shared by Drive, Gmail, and Photos. Basic is $1.99/month for 100 GB. Google AI Plus is $9.99/month for 2 TB. Google AI Pro is $19.99/month for 5 TB. A plan can be shared with up to five other people.
Other filesThe same library holds uploads, camera shots, recording backups, and editor files, up to 50 GB each. Browse on the web, in the iPhone app, or in Finder.Photos is for photos and videos. Other files belong in Drive.
SearchFilter by name, photo or video, member, device, and date. There is no face or object search.Google Photos is known for search across what is in the picture. This page does not inventory those tools.
Sharing a pictureA person outside the team cannot open an arbitrary file or folder from a link. Signed-in members can open the team drive, within their role. A recording has its own watch link, separate from the file library.Shared albums and link sharing are part of Google Photos.

When FrameCast is the better fit

  • A job folder, not a personal camera roll

A crew can point photo sync at one album, such as job sites, and have those pictures land under the person who took them.

  • The quota is only files

Mail does not consume the 15 GB free pool or the team’s 1 TB.

  • The camera can file as it shoots

The iPhone camera in the app can save a photo or video straight into a folder you pick, through an outbox that keeps uploading after you leave the camera.

Fair tradeoffs

Google Photos is the stronger photo product: Android as well as iPhone, search inside pictures, and shared albums that reach people without a FrameCast account. It is the wrong comparison if you need a general file drive with link sharing. Use it for a personal library. Use FrameCast when the photos are work and they need to sit in one team folder next to the other job files.
