FrameCast vs iCloud

Pricing notes as of October 12, 2026. Figures can change — confirm on each vendor’s site before you buy.

iCloud is Apple’s sync for photos, files, device backup, and a set of privacy features sold as iCloud+. Family Sharing can put up to five other people on one storage plan, and Apple keeps each person’s files separate.

FrameCast does not back up an iPhone, and it does not sync mail, passwords, or messages. It stores the files you add, and it can copy an iPhone photo library into a folder the whole team can open. Personal files use Free (15 GB) or Pro ($6.00/month or $60.00/year, 200 GB). Each team is its own subscription: $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team, with 1 TB for up to 250 members. Extra storage is $20.00/month per extra terabyte, on your personal plan or on that team. One sign-in can belong to several teams. My Files are not counted against a team, and team admins cannot open them.

PaidPro is $6.00/month or $60.00/year with 200 GB. Team is $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team with 1 TB, pooled. $20.00/month per extra terabyte.Free iCloud is 5 GB. iCloud+ is $0.99/month for 50 GB, $2.99 for 200 GB, $9.99 for 2 TB, $29.99 for 6 TB, and $59.99 for 12 TB. Any plan can be shared with up to five other family members. Personal files stay separate.
PhotosOff until you turn it on. You pick the destination: My Files, a team, or a folder. Sync into a team asks you to confirm that team's admins will see the photos. Send the whole library or chosen albums, everything already on the phone or only new photos, with videos optional and screenshots skippable. On a team, photos land in the folder you pick — by member and month, by default — and upload in the background, mostly while the iPhone charges on Wi-Fi. Personal sync never counts against a team.iCloud Photos keeps a library across Apple devices, with Shared Albums and a Shared Photo Library for up to five other people. iCloud+ storage can be shared with family, and each person’s own files stay private.
Files on the desktopEach drive you turn on becomes a FrameCast folder in Finder. Files download when opened, and Keep Downloaded can keep a folder on the Mac. The iPhone Files app lists each drive while you are signed in. There is no Windows or Android file app.iCloud Drive appears in Finder on a Mac, in the Files app, at iCloud.com, and in File Explorer with iCloud for Windows.
What else syncsFiles you put in, photos you sync, camera captures, and recording backups. Not the phone’s backup, mail, or keychain.Device backup, Photos, Drive, and apps such as Notes, Mail, and Messages, depending on what you turn on.
A company crewTeam is a shared drive you can repeat: one person can be in several. Up to 250 members, five roles, restricted folders, and a photo folder filed by person. My Files stay private to you.Family Sharing is a household pool with private libraries, not a company drive of every work phone.
Sharing a fileA person outside the team cannot open an arbitrary file or folder from a link. Signed-in members can open the team drive, within their role. A recording has its own watch link, separate from the file library.iCloud can share files and folders by link, including live collaboration on Apple documents.

When FrameCast is the better fit

  • The free tier can hold a camera roll

5 GB of iCloud fills up on device backup alone. FrameCast Free is 15 GB and does not spend it on a phone backup.

  • Work phones share one folder

Family Sharing is built so relatives do not see each other’s files. A team drive is built so they do, for the folders in that drive.

  • Recording sits next to the files

The Mac app records, edits, and can publish a watch link. iCloud will store a video file. It will not make the watch page.

Fair tradeoffs

iCloud+ is the right subscription when you want Apple’s own photo library, device backup, Private Relay, and Hide My Email, or when a Windows PC must see the same Drive folder. The 200 GB and 2 TB iCloud+ tiers cost less per gigabyte than FrameCast Pro and Team. FrameCast is the narrower product: files, photo sync, and recording, priced per team once a crew shares a folder. Personal files stay on your own plan.
