FrameCast vs WeTransfer
Pricing notes as of October 12, 2026. Figures can change — confirm on each vendor’s site before you buy.
WeTransfer moves a batch of files to someone else. The free plan allows up to 10 transfers or 3 GB total in any rolling 30-day window. The files are a transfer, not the place your team keeps working.
FrameCast is the library those files would live in: My Files, a team drive, photo sync, and Finder. It is not a substitute for emailing a stranger a download of an arbitrary folder. Personal files use Free (15 GB) or Pro ($6.00/month or $60.00/year, 200 GB). Each team is its own subscription: $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team, with 1 TB for up to 250 members. Extra storage is $20.00/month per extra terabyte, on your personal plan or on that team. One sign-in can belong to several teams. My Files are not counted against a team, and team admins cannot open them.
Side-by-side
| Factor | FrameCast | WeTransfer |
|---|---|---|
| What it is for | Keep files, synced photos, and recordings for yourself or a team, and open them later on the web, iPhone, or Mac. | Send files to someone. Free is capped. Ultimate is positioned as unlimited transfers with custom expiration. |
| Free limits | 15 GB stored, files up to 50 GB, and 25 live video links up to 30 minutes each. | Free sends up to 10 transfers or 3 GB total in any rolling 30-day window. Starter sends up to 10 transfers or 300 GB in that window. Ultimate is unlimited transfers up to 1 TB each, with custom expiration. Dollar prices were not listed on the plan-limits page. |
| A public link to any file | A person outside the team cannot open an arbitrary file or folder from a link. Signed-in members can open the team drive, within their role. A recording has its own watch link, separate from the file library. | The recipient downloads from a link and does not need an account. That is the product. |
| A video you want watched | A recording can be a watch page with a transcript, chapters, comments, and reactions. Password, expiry, and domain limits are on Pro and Team. The viewer does not need an account. | A video is another file in the transfer. There is no watch page with chapters or viewer insights. |
| Keeping the work | Files stay until you delete them. Trash holds them for 30 days. If your personal paid plan ends, files stay readable for 90 days, then the newest that fit Free remain. If a team subscription ends, only that team stays readable for 90 days. Members can move their own uploads into My Files if their personal plan has room. After that, the team's files are deleted. Other teams and your personal files are not part of that deletion. | Storage on the plan-limits page covers live and recoverable transfers: up to 2 TB by default, and up to 5 TB on Teams. Transfers are not a shared working drive. |
| A team folder | Each team pools 1 TB. You can be in more than one, and My Files stay personal. $20.00/month or $220.00/year for one team. | WeTransfer Teams adds shared workspaces and admin tools on top of Ultimate. The plan-limits page does not list a dollar price. |
When FrameCast is the better fit
The photos have to still be there next month
Photo sync fills a folder your team browses, searches, and downloads. A transfer link is a delivery, and the free plan caps how many you can send.
You want someone to watch, not download a master
A screen recording or video message gets a watch page. Comments and a transcript stay with the link. Download of that video can be turned off on Pro and Team.
The crew shares one pool
A team is $20.00 a month for that team, not a per-transfer allowance.
Fair tradeoffs
Use WeTransfer, or any transfer tool, when a client needs a download of files they will never sign in to see. FrameCast cannot do that for a PDF, a folder, or a ZIP today. Use FrameCast when the files should remain in a library, when iPhones should keep filling that library, or when the thing you are sending is a video someone should watch in the browser.
